When passionate, community-minded individuals come together to make a difference, they create a powerful energy. It’s the kind of spark that powers philanthropic leadership and drives lasting change for our community. It’s the kind of synergetic connection at the core of United Way’s Tocqueville Society.
The United Way Tocqueville Society was named after Alexis de Tocqueville, a 19th-century French political thinker and historian who admired values he witnessed while traveling throughout the U.S. – liberty, equality and the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor.
He recognized, applauded, and immortalized the voluntary spirit that lives in America’s heart and remains the foundation of the United Way. Today, our forty-two Tocqueville Society member households continue to build upon this vision by providing opportunities for a better tomorrow.
